AMP E-Bikes 16” off-road wheel for the Sur-Ron Light Bee X is built for riders who want a stronger, more reliable wheel foundation while sharpening the bike’s feel on the trail. The smaller diameter improves responsiveness and gives the bike a more planted, controlled feel in technical off-road riding.
The rim is manufactured from 7116-T6 aluminium, a high-strength alloy chosen for its resistance to flexing and deformation under repeated impacts and sustained off-road use. In a 16” × 1.85 configuration, the rim strikes a controlled balance between durability and agility, while also opening up more tyre options. The smaller rim allows fitment of wider tyres and different profiles, giving riders greater freedom to tune grip, sidewall support, and overall traction to suit terrain and riding style.
The hub is CNC-machined from 6082-T6 aluminium, offering higher tensile strength and improved fatigue resistance compared to commonly used 6061-T6 alloys. The T6 heat treatment increases stiffness and structural reliability in high-load areas, particularly around the spoke flanges, where off-road stresses are concentrated.
Sealed ceramic bearings with a tight, high-tolerance fit, housed in a reinforced hub design that supports the bearing evenly under load. The bearing seats are spaced to form a stable, triangular load path through the hub, helping spread impact forces rather than concentrating them in one area.
The wheel is laced with 8G (3.5 mm) 304 stainless steel spokes, selected for corrosion resistance and long-term tension stability in wet and dirty riding environments. The spoke layout is matched to the hub flange geometry to maintain even load distribution throughout the wheel.
Each wheel is carefully assembled and tensioned, with spoke tension verified using calibrated tools to ensure uniform loading. Final balancing corrects mass distribution across the rim and hub assembly, helping reduce vibration and maintain consistent tyre contact during sustained off-road riding.
Running a 16” wheel also delivers a clear performance advantage: quicker acceleration and a stronger torque feel, especially at lower speeds. The reduced rolling diameter helps the bike get into its power faster, making it easier to drive out of corners and maintain momentum on technical climbs.
